Weekly Movie Review

So its been a busy week - Ive totally redone my website - please check it out http://www.kenjoneswho.com/ - you can find more of my stuff there. But besides the fact that i remade my website I have started running agian. I went running in the rain with my mp3 player the other night and it was AWESOMO (thats spanish for awesome).

-21-
I'd been looking forward to this movie for quite some time now. I'd seen the trailor on a website before it even came out in the theater. It has officially been my second most anticipated film of the year.... second to Rush Hour 3. I'd used some of my sources to get free preview passes, so I saw the movie last night before it officially was released.

I walked into the movie theater with very high hopes of the movie and as I sat and conversed with my long time friend, Travis, my hunger for the movie grew. Main charecter, Jim Sturgess, played Jude in Across the Universe and has quickly become one of my favorite actors. He Seems to play different roles well, whether it be set in the past, such as The Other Boleyn Girl, or recent roles, like 21. But he's shows emotion well without over doing it like most actors and actresses.

But about the movie - It was paced well. Not too fast but not too slow. And While storyline went different that i had expected, I was delighted at the surprises it had in store for me. The movie was fantastic though. Laurence Fishburne - also known as "Morpeous" from the Matrix did an outstanding job. The only person that would had been better for the part is Denzel Washington.... but who am i kidding, he could any role better than anybody.

The last 20 minutes of the movie were outstanding. The Best Movies are the ones that have you leaving the theater Grinning. Juno is a good example of movies that do this.... and speaking of good movies - Good Will Hunting!

Overall Rating: 9/10
Overall Rating had Denzel Washington played the part of Laurence Fishburne: 9.5

And im not saying Laurence Fishburne did a bad job at all. Im just saying that Denzel is AWESOMO

-Se7en-

Wow. This is one of the most powerful and shocking movies I've ever seen. Morgan Freeman delivered another steller performance. As did Kevin Spacey. Theres not much to say about this without giving important details away. But trust me. You want to see this movie. I has already found a spot in my top 15 favorite movies.

Overall Rating: 9.5/10

Weekly Movie Ratings

So I've come to the conclusion that I need to watch more movies..... over the past few year Ive seen a lot of the movies that have come out in the theater but before that my movie history was slim. All I hear from people older than me is them talking about movie that I've never seen. But its not all my fault - before i could drive i had no way of getting movies or going to see them. But nonetheless I've decided to watch at least three movies a week. My good friend Watch-Movies.net is providing me with decent quality movies at the click of a mouse.

-Lucky Number Slevin-
I just watched 'Lucky Number Slevin' last night and was not disappointed at all. the casting was pretty good - Lucy Lu did an outstanding job as always and Morgan Freeman added another bullet to the reason why i think he is the second best actor of all time, second to Denzel Washington. I've never been a fan of Bruce Willis but he did a good job this time. I'm not going to cover the plot because that would take to long and I don't want to give anything away.

Overall Rating 8.5/10

-A lot like love-
I'd heard 'A lot Like Love' was good so I figured Id give it a try. Funny I thought the music was one of the best things about the movie, but I'm strange and pay attention to things like the music.
It just makes a movie that much better when the music fits the scene perfectly. For example: In the Movie Wedding Crashers (Great on more than one level) when Owen Wilson was depressed, the song "I hope tomorrow is like today" by Guster played and it was the perfect song for the moment. The movie wasn't bad either. It was pretty entertaining, and I am a fan of the type girl that was in the movie - the kinda bad girl/ artsy / crazy type.... yeah.... Even Ashton Kutcher was decent in this movie. I normal don't like his stuff, espescailly dislike him in "That 70's show" but I did think he was the right guy for the job in "Guess Who"

Overall Rating 7/10

-10,000 BC-10,000 BC was not what I expected. I thought it was going to more or less be more or less a documentary with different stories going on, and i would had been cool with a halfway educational film. But instead you pretty much watch some guy who thinks hes a nobody walk around for days while following the love of his life, the beautiful Camilla Belle. The movie wasn't horrible in my opinion.... it just didn't go in the direction i would had taken it. I halfway went to see it for the special FX's and graphics and those were okay, not outstanding but good. 10,000 BC is worth a rent

Overall Rating 6.5/10

Spring Break 08'

Spring breaks aren't a big deal for me, never have been. I haven't been on a vacation since i was 11 and Ive spent every spring break ever since i was 16 working. This spring break was different though.... well not entirely, i still planned on working a lot but at least i was going to get to travel to Ohio for a few days and get paid for it.

In the school textbook industry there are a few vital weeks that bookstores hate just as much as students, just in a different way. FINALS WEEK! This is when bookstores do about 90% of there book buybacks. Most of the time bookstores just buyback from their own university, but not my company. We travel to different university's and set up shop and buy books as an independent business - which isn't completely false.

Me and my manager 'Donkey' traveled to the LAGER university with their mascot named after a poisonous nut..... yes a poisonous nut. We traveled to Ohio State University, home of the Buckeyes. I show up there on my first official day of spring break just to have to maneuver my way around in over a foot of snow. During the 3 1/2 hour drive up me and Donkey noticed the snow became increasingly more. I didn't mind the long hours in the car with Donkey because he's a pretty cool guy. We shared some stories and listened to some music.

The rest of my spring break was spent playing Call of Duty 4 on X-Box live and working on a web page for my class - Check it out - i looks really simple but it took me a while to do all the PHP programming.

One last note - KENTUCKY GOT INTO THE NCAA TOURNAMENT - be ready for them to upset some teams. Don't forget about how they beat Tennessee and Vandy and Florida.

Bittersweet Symphony

I listen to a large amount or music and I'm a pretty decent fan of lyrics.... good lyrics, that is. I just heard the song "Bittersweet Symphony" and you can't denie that the lyrics for that song are anything short of awesome.
"Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life
Try to make ends meet
You're a slave to money then you die
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places
where all the veins meet yeah,"

Some of my favorite Lyicist are:
  • Barenaked Ladies
  • Afroman (fo sho!)
  • Pete Yorn
  • Belle & Sebastian
  • Vertical Horizon
  • Benfolds
  • Copeland

No Go Radio

If you are anything like myself, a cool BAMF, then I'm sure you probably dont like the radio much. Sure sometimes they play some songs you like. But I can almost guaren-darn-tee you that you gunna hear it again within the next few hours. If its a new song youll hear it again before the hours up. And whats the deal with those songs that fit into every genre. EXAMPLE: colbie caillat's song "Bubbly". If i hear that song one more time i may become a cutter. It's bad enough that thoses songs are on every station, but do they have to be on every station all the time. Usually i change the station when I dont want to listen to the song thats on.

Curious as to why "most" stations play the same songs again and again and again. I emailed Chris Elliot of CD 106.3 asking him about the repetition and lack of veriety. This is how he responded:

"Hi Ken, good question. The bottom line is, most radio stations report to Radio & Records or Mediabase, which chart songs by the amount of plays by each station creating your basic top 100. By being a reporter to one of these companys, a radio station gets more help for promotions, concerts & CD's from each of the record labels, therefore, it's beneficial for us to only play the songs chosen by the labels as a single released to radio which of course creates the repetitive nature of the beast. There are stations, college ones for example, who don't depend on help from record companies which allows them to pretty much play whatever they want. That's basically it in a nutshell, but, yes there is a method to the madness....somewhat..

Hope that helps a little...

Take care Ken,

Chris"

That was a fairly legit answere to my question. I really wish someone would open a radio staion here in Lexington that doesn't report to Radio & Records. I have actully thouht about starting a station here in town. A no limits station, I WOULD PLAY WHAT I WANT, WHEN I WANT, ALL THE TIME. the only problemo would be funding - which is what the mediabase is for. And i couldnt rely on advertising because who the frum wants commercials every 5 minutes... not I said Ken Jones. Maybe I'll find some rich guy that wants to help fund the station.

As for now I'll stick to listening to muh IPOD. It's one of my best ifriends.

BaraAAAHHHH Obama

First and formost, I'd like to say that I am going to start posting on my
blog agian.

So Ive come up with the perfect campaign ad for Barack Obama. Lets set aside the fact that he's already going to win. Hilary is his only competition, because theres no chance of a Republican becoming the next president. So heres the next BIG THING for Barack - BYAAAAHHHH!!! -

I garentee him a win at the next debate with this straetgy. Check it - When Billary Clinton tries to make him look bad he just turns to her and says "Hilary....are you a lesbian.....I LOVE LESBIANS, BYAAAAHHHH! Thats
what Howard Dean would had done, but Howard Dean is one goofy son of a biscuit eater.

"Yes We Can" has worked out fairly well for the brotha, I'm not gunna lie its pretty catchy.

Not gunna lie, thats a pretty sweet video. You've already got names like John Legend in there, throw some Ben Harper in there and itd be cooler than Tom Brady is a Doucebag. Ill end on that note.

The Fish Thief

Fishing used to be a hobby of mine. Yes, used to be. That was until the darkest day in the history of my life - September 6th 1991 - the day that little white girl stole my fish.

It all started like this:

It was the day after my forth birthday, and the day prior i had told my dad i wanted to go fishing for my birthday. See in my family we never really exchanged gifts - we just got to do something fun of our choice - which in my case was every other year because i had to take turns with my twin sister. [sidenote- just because two people are twins, that doesnt mean the want to share everything] But back to the fishing trip.

I woke up that september 6th morning, got on my favorite green shirt, some jeans, and my all white Forces (shoes). Ill skip forward to the lake though.

At the lake i was fishin a little ways away from my dad, and thats when it happened. I felt a tug on my line and knew i had a big fish on my line. [I dont fish with a bobber on my line because those are for no good wussies.] But I reeled that fish in, got it off the hook, and put it on a stick so i could go show my dad, and thats when this white girl showed up and said "hey there boy, Im Molly. WOW thats a nice fish you got there.... can i see it" Yet i was only four, i knew i was a pimp and the little white girls loved my style.

So i let her see the fish. Once it was in her hand she took off running around the lake.

I was more eager to get my fish back then G.W. Bush is to pull our troops out of Iraq.... well i guess that wouldnt make me very eager at all... but i chased her all the way around the lake until my dad stopped us. I told him that she stole my fish and he just laughed and told me to quit being so mean and to go stand next to her and get a pic with my new friend. I obeyed because had i not, I'd a been whooped.

Still to this day i have nightmares about lettin that white girl see my stick.......with the fish on it!
